Car Troubles

Play/Pause Stop
Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble. —Job 14:1, NKJV

It was a beautiful summer morning in Tallahassee, Florida, United States, when my friend Juliette offered to drive me to work in the city.

As we walked to the car, she noticed it had a flat tire, so she changed it.

Then the car refused to start. After many tries, she borrowed the neighbor’s car, and we traveled the twenty-five miles into the city.

On our way, we noticed a red light flashing on the dashboard.

We had no idea what it indicated, but we prayed and asked God for His protection.

We were happy to arrive at our destination safely.

In the afternoon, when my friend arrived to pick me up from work, we drove to the gas station. The car was a very old Chevrolet, and in order to fill it with gas, the hood had to be opened. After Juliette opened the hood and filled the tank with gas, the hood would not close. It was stuck. She asked several men who were at the gas station for assistance.

They all tried, but none of them could get it unstuck.

We waited there for a long time; neither of us had any idea what to do. Finally, Juliette decided to call her friend to let her know of our dilemma with the car.

As she left to make the call, I decided to pray.

I asked the Lord to help us so we would be able to leave soon in order to arrive home before it got dark. I said, “Lord, please send us help so we can get the hood to close.” As I opened my eyes, I saw a man walking by rather quickly, as if he had an emergency.

He walked past the car and then suddenly stood still and turned to look back toward the car. I looked at him and then beckoned him to come over.

I asked him kindly if he would try to close the hood for me.

He held the hood and pushed it down effortlessly.

Before I could say, “Thank you,” he disappeared out of sight.

Juliette saw what had just happened and shouted out to me, “He’s an angel!” When she got into the car, we prayed and thanked God for helping us.

We drove home praising and glorifying God for His blessings toward us.

My friends, let us be faithful to Him, for He is able. The devil tried hard that day to discourage us, but the Lord overruled. Praise His name!
