There were precious, hungry mouths to be filled and two very concerned, confused parents who had no idea where their next meal would come from.
My husband and I quietly discussed the situation before us.
The immediate need was to provide food.
We could assist the family in solving other issues later that day or at some other time. For now, we would share from our own pantry to help this family.
After we reached home, my husband went in search of a large enough box as I headed to the pantry. I prayerfully surveyed the items in front of me.
Lord, please show me what I need to put in this box.
As I picked out a variety of cans, packets, and boxes of food, I thought about how each item could contribute to a meal. We did not have ready cash to give this family, but there certainly was enough food for both our families. In fact, we had much more than we needed. My husband brought a second box, and we filled that too.
On our way back to the family, we thought about them.
If we had not visited their home, we would have had no idea of their dire need. Later that evening, after dropping off the boxes of food, I went back to our pantry.
We still had enough food. Even after sharing with the other family, there was still enough to share again. Whenever we give, God has a way of supplying all that we need.
The more we give, the more we are given in return. Perhaps today is a good time to assess the pantries in our lives. How about our faith pantry? Our trust pantry? How about our gratitude pantry? Our help pantry? What about our love pantry? Let us check our pantries. We will find more than enough to share something with someone today.
Let us practice giving love, kindness, and a helping hand.
God has given us so much—and we have more than enough! God has promised to supply in abundance when we give to others.
We can trust Him with our pantries.
