Co-laborers With Christ

Play/Pause Stop
He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. —Psalm 126:6, KJV

The gospel commission given by Jesus to His disciples though all the ages, as recorded in Matthew 28:18–20, makes us all colaborers with our Master.

As laborers in the Lord’s vineyard, we are called to carry the seed of the gospel to everyone, beginning from our Jerusalem—our homes—to all parts of the world. The seed must be carefully planted in good soil, which represents the heart of people, then tended with care as it grows. God collaborates with us in soul winning and causes the seed to germinate, develop roots, and produce fruit. It is a thing of joy for all farmers to see that the seed they have planted has grown into fully matured, fruitful plants, ready for the harvest.

This analogy best describes the joy of witnessing how a sinner is saved, grows, and matures, and then goes on to win others for Christ. Several years ago, I conducted an evangelistic crusade in another country. After the series, I met a young man in his early twenties who was vacillating between making a stand for God or not. I approached him and took a personal interest in him, encouraging him to give his life to Christ while he was still young.

After a while, he decided to accept Jesus and was baptized.

We kept in touch for a while, but I lost contact with him because I lived in a different country. The years rolled by, and miraculously, my daughter came in contact with this young man, who told her the story of how he came to be baptized.

He has grown in his faith and is now one of the leaders in the church where he was baptized. Moreover, he went on to get a master’s degree in accounting and now works with the General Conference Auditing Service. He loves to work with young people in leading them to give their lives to Jesus. I reconnected with him, and great was my joy to hear his wonderful testimony. “Thank you, ma’am,” he said, “for leading me to Jesus and for all the counsel you gave me. Today I am a child of God, and I am so blessed.” His words filled my eyes with tears. It is true: “He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him” (Psalm 126:6, KJV)! Amen!
