I felt overwhelmed. Things were not going well at all, and to add insult to injury, as the older folks would say, the two vehicles we owned were giving us problems, the washing machine was not functioning the way it should, and the list went on.
I decided that morning to put all the issues before the Lord, including the fact that, with the exception of our son, the other three family members were unemployed. I determined to pray every hour, on the hour, which I did, beginning at 9:00 A.M. As it approached 3:00 P.M., I sensed the Holy Spirit urging me to “pray now.” I obeyed, and after praying, I sat for a few minutes, meditating on the goodness of God. At 3:02 P.M., the phone rang. I hesitated for a moment before answering, and to my surprise, it was a friend I had been thinking about the week before. We chatted for a bit, and I told her I had been thinking of her and planned to visit her at her office the next time I was in the city. She then asked me, “Would you be interested in going back to doing legal work? A friend of mine is looking for a senior clerk.” I was stunned. She continued, “So, if you would email all your information to me, I will forward it, as I am the one who recommended you.” Without hesitation, I blurted out, “Yes!” My friends, I had decided not to return to that field, but clearly God had other plans. I saw this as His leading.
I had been at home for the past six years, my husband was also at home, and we had been living on the little savings we had. I sent my friend my application and résumé, and the very next morning I received a call at 6:30 A.M. for an interview the same day. Today I am employed, and my salary is almost the same as when I left my former job, where I had worked for thirty-three years—almost six years before. God heard the cry of His child that Sunday morning. He had been working behind the scenes, putting things in place, before I called.
With my whole heart, I say, “Thank You, Lord!” My prayer is that my testimony helps someone who is waiting in line for their blessing. Trust our on-time, faithful God. He is our Waymaker.
