Ladies, how do you satisfy the urge to be creative—to feel a sense of accomplishment that brings satisfaction? Some might turn to baking; others to walking with camera in hand or perhaps working in the garden or making a gift for a friend.
Some find their fulfillment in writing. As I write this, I think of the widely divergent backgrounds of those who contribute their time, thoughts, and talents to making these devotional books possible from year to year. If you are one of those, you have felt that excitement when the acceptance notification comes. If not, why not consider it? I confess I am a self-appointed recruiter for writers, including those of you who have not yet let us hear your stories or learn from your experience. Those life lessons are such a blessing to those of us who read them. My sister, Mary Jane Graves, has often been published in these books. I would read her devotionals, never thinking that I might have something to share. Then one day I found myself in a situation that seemed it would be perfect for a devotional. It almost wrote itself ! It was published ten years ago when I was eighty-five years old. Since then, I have skipped a couple of years for lack of inspiration, but my latest attempt was emailed just a few days ago. Each time I see the names of those of you who write, I want to know more about you. I turn to the biographical sketches in the back and learn where you live and a few other interesting details. I also check to see whether you are on Facebook, and if you are, I feel I know you a little better. It is said that everyone has a story. It need not be any kind of dramatic experience. It can be some everyday occurrence from which you can draw a spiritual lesson that will turn your readers’ thoughts to things of eternal value. And that is really what these books are all about. “Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness” (Psalm 145:7, NLT).
I do hope you will share your story with us.
I look forward to reading it!
