Adventist Schools

Adults · From the book Every Day a New Beginning

Verse:

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” —John 17:3

Evangelism and education go hand in hand.

Through evangelism, we reach all social segments.

Through education, we shape new generations.

Looking at the world map, we can say that the Adventist Church is strong and healthy where both lines of work are healthy.

This means that the right place for Adventist children to study is in Adventist schools. But what if our own church members no longer value Adventist education? In the Advent Review and Sabbath Herald of January 9, 1894, Ellen White wrote, “When those who have reached the years of youth and manhood see no difference between our schools and the colleges of the world, and have no preference as to which they attend, though error is taught by precept and example in the schools of the world, then there is need of closely examining the reasons that lead to such a conclusion.

Our institutions of learning may swing into worldly conformity.

Step by step they may advance to the world; but they are prisoners of hope, and God will correct and enlighten them, and bring them back to their upright position of distinction from the world. I am watching with intense interest, hoping to see our schools thoroughly imbued with the spirit of true and undefiled religion.” One year later, on January 9, 1895, Mrs. White wrote, “The end of all true education is expressed in the words of Christ: ‘This is life eternal that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent.’ [John 17:3].”20 Spirituality should never be used as an excuse for poor academic performance, nor can academic excellence replace spiritual commitment. Each complements the other. If our schools are losing their spiritual identity, it is high time to rescue that identity so that they can fulfill the very purpose of their existence! As a church and as families, we must unify our efforts in supporting Adventist education by raising the spiritual and academic levels of our schools and by encouraging every family to put their children in our schools.

Let’s criticize less and do more for the future generations of Adventists.

Our students must be carefully prepared for this life and for eternity.
