Life Without Limits

Adults · From the book Every Day a New Beginning

Verse:

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. —Philippians 4:13

As a midwife and pediatric nurse in Melbourne, Australia, Dushka had participated in hundreds of deliveries and cared for the newborn babies.

Now, at the age of twenty-five, she would have her own baby —she was so excited! The doctors and two ultrasounds had confirmed that everything was going well and that she would have a boy. On December 4, 1982, Nicholas (or “Nick”) was born, but the doctor carried him away without allowing Dushka to see him.

Concerned about the whole situation, she asked the doctor if the baby was all right. The doctor responded simply, “Phocomelia,” and the young mother was absolutely devastated. Dushka and her husband, Boris, could not understand why God allowed their own child to be born without arms or legs. It took quite some time for Dushka and Boris to accept what had happened to their child. It took even more time for Nick to accept it himself. But eventually, they realized that God had a plan for Nick’s life.

With amazing determination, Nick went to school, began to practice some sports, and even became a powerful Christian evangelist and motivational speaker.

On February 12, 2012, he married Kanae Miyahara, and they have four children. In his book Life Without Limits, Nick Vujicic states, You can’t always control what happens to you. There are some occurrences in life that are not your fault or within your power to stop... You see, I don’t think we are ever given more than we can handle.

I promise you that for every disability you have, you are blessed with more than enough abilities to overcome your challenges.

Sometimes the best way to stop our own complaining and overcome our own self-pity is to meet someone in a worse situation than our own.

An old proverb says, “I complained that I had no shoes until I met someone who had no feet.” When you are tempted to complain about your difficulties, keep in mind that you are not the first to suffer from shortcomings and weaknesses.

When you are tempted to give up, remember that God wants to strengthen you and use you as He did Nick.
