Verse:“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.” —Isaiah 1:18, NKJV
Years ago, I taught a Vacation Bible School kindergarten class at our church. We made crafts, played games, sang songs, and enjoyed stories.
We also enjoyed a refreshment break.
Everyone was pleased with the juice and chocolate chip cookies.
All went well until five-year-old Debbie reached for her Hawaiian punch. The cup tipped over and splashed her juice onto the table, the carpet, and my slacks. Debbie’s brown eyes filled with tears. “Oh, Mrs. Moyers,” she wept, “I didn’t mean to ruin your pants! I’m so sorry!” As I wiped myself off, her classmates cleaned the table and the floor with wet paper towels. Debbie kept sobbing. Patting her shoulder, I said, “It’s OK.
It was an accident. Look! My pants are the same color as your juice. Nobody will notice the stain once it dries. I’ll wash them when I get home.
They’ll be just fine!” “Really?” “Yes!” What happened made me think of God’s promises, such as, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23, KJV). Whether on purpose or unknowingly, we have all done wrong. And as a result, our lives and characters are stained. That’s when we need to read today’s text from Isaiah 1:18. We can start with a clean slate. God says, “And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them a heart of flesh: that they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God” (Ezekiel 11:19, 20, KJV).
I want that spiritual heart transplant, don’t you?
