Verse:Fear not, for I am with you. —Isaiah 41:10, TLB
My two sons are “miracle” babies.
I was pregnant with our first one when an examining doctor unexpectedly asked my husband this disturbing question: “Are you sure you want to abort the baby?” “No, I want to save the baby!” replied my shocked husband.
“Oh, everything is fine then,” she said with a broad smile. “I am happy to tell you that your wife is healthy, and the growing baby is fine.” The doctor returned to the examination room, where I was still waiting for her.
“You can get ready to go home now.
Everything is fine.” In the waiting room, I found my husband with a very pale face. He told me about the doctor’s question.
We were in Brazil, visiting my husband’s brother and family. Since I wasn’t feeling too well, I had asked if I could see a doctor to check on my unborn baby’s health. My brother-in-law (who practices spiritualism) recommended a woman doctor.
We learned he had asked her to abort the fetus without consulting us. Had she not queried my husband, we could have lost our first child without knowing why. My husband immediately found a hotel where we could stay, leaving his brother’s house to avoid confrontation. Some years later, when I wasn’t feeling well, I tried to make an appointment with my doctor —only to learn he was on holiday.
The consulting doctor sent me for one barium meal and seven full-body x-rays. They revealed nothing. Then I was able to see my own doctor when she was back at work. She simply pressed my tummy and declared, “You’re pregnant.” I froze. She continued, “It’s too late in your life now to have a normal delivery.
You could easily give birth to a defective child.
You should probably have the baby aborted.
In fact, you could probably easily sue the medical staff who misdiagnosed and treated you before I could see you.” Again, I decided to refuse an abortion.
I simply submitted my future child to our Creator God.
“You should listen to the doctor,” someone reprimanded me.
“I know somebody in your situation who had a blind baby.” My husband alone prayerfully supported my decision to do the right thing by honoring human life.
And today, our two sons are miracles of God’s grace.
