The Man in the Uniform

Adults · From the book The Hope Of Glory

Verse:

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. —Psalm 119:105

Disoriented in the New York City subway, I didn’t have a clue where to go. I knew where I was, and I knew where I wanted to go.

But although I had a map, I could not find the platform where I needed to catch my next train. Thankfully, I was able to find a man in a uniform, a man who worked for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

A brief explanation and a couple of questions later, he had directed me to the place I needed to be. I continued on my journey, and everything worked out well. A lost person needs directions.

The same is true spiritually, and God in His goodness provides us with all the direction we need. His Word is a lamp that helps us find and keep our footing and a light that makes the pathway clear. The Bible is given by God to be used as a reliable guide. The major issues confronting society today are all addressed in the Bible.

While millions of people are struggling financially, the Bible provides solid financial advice. While marriages continue to fall apart and children continue to lose their way, the Bible counsels us regarding interpersonal relationships, marriage, and raising children. The Bible contains time-tested advice.

God doesn’t dispense flaky, gimmicky advice but the kind of trustworthy counsel an all-wise Father would give to His children.

Governments continue to wrestle with massive health-care issues and the immense financial implications, even while the Bible provides advice that has been scientifically proven to improve health and lengthen life.

Who is informing the decisions you make? Whose wisdom provides the basis for your choices? When you’re not sure which way to turn, whom do you ask for directions? The guidance provided in the Bible will never let you down.

God only wants the very best for His children.

Not a single person was ever disadvantaged by trusting the Word of God. As you allow God’s Word to be your counselor, expect to see God bless and prosper your life.
