The Valley of Decision

Adults · From the book The Hope Of Glory

Verse:

Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. —Joel 3:14

Each of the nearly eight billion people in the world today has an eternal destiny. Stretching before every person on earth is a forever future.

The decisions made on a daily basis will affect every individual’s future life. Joel proclaims that multitudes are in the valley of decision, suggesting something remarkable about not only the importance of God’s gift to us but also about the power of choice. Life is simply a series of choices. We are all born into this world with others making choices for us. But as children grow and gain experience, they begin to make decisions for themselves. Life-altering decisions are made: where to attend college, what career to pursue, whom to choose as a life partner.

These are weighty decisions that should not be made without careful study and earnest prayer. But no choice is as important as the choice you make regarding your relationship with God. You are privileged to determine your own spiritual destiny. In Joshua 24:15, God said through His servant Joshua, “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.” Elijah addressed Israel on Mount Carmel and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him” (1 Kings 18:21). When the crowds were turning away from Him, Jesus said to His disciples, “Do you also want to go away?” (John 6:67).

The decision to remain with Jesus or to turn away from Him was theirs. Not everyone has the same standard of living, educational opportunities, privileges, or talents, but every single person has the power of choice, the opportunity for eternal self-determination. Today, you have the opportunity to make the decision to belong to Jesus. If you are in the valley of decision, let your decision be for the God of heaven.

While some of the decisions that confront you from day to day are small and others large, they add up together to determine your eternal destiny.

Let your decisions today be for Jesus.
