Verse:“All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children.” —Isaiah 54:13
One of the great sadnesses in the world is the enormous amount of suffering endured by children. While so many children are never permitted to enter the world owing to the colossal tragedy of abortion, there are millions of children in the world who are forced to carry unthinkably heavy burdens.
An enormous number of children live in abject poverty.
There are those who are starving, neglected, the victims of human trafficking, and those who suffer unspeakable abuse.
And God sees it all. God has made it clear that He is not indifferent to the suffering of the younger members of the human family.
Jesus said in Mark 9:42, “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.” Jesus made time for the children His own disciples felt were not worthy of His attention. He said in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” In Isaiah 54:13, God speaks to an afflicted people, saying, “Great shall be the peace of your children.” Our heavenly Father feels keenly for children, and He does not forget them. Satan works with incredible malice, causing heartache to God by striking at the little ones He loves. As our planet sinks deeper into sin, we can look beyond this world and see a time when children won’t be hungry, exploited, or abandoned.
Life can be especially difficult for the young and defenseless, but, one day, children will live in a world of peace. While sin does its terrible work and the inhabitants of this world cannot be immune to its effects, God looks forward to a time of hope for those who trust in Him. One day soon, senseless suffering will be forever over. All who call God their Father can look forward to that day with confidence.
