Verse:

For now, we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. —1 Corinthians 13:12

There are some common questions asked in relation to heaven. “Will my pets be in heaven?” “Will my spouse and I be married in heaven?” “How am I going to be able to bear eternity if some of my loved ones are not there?” These are meaningful questions, and God has very clear answers for them and others like them —and He will give them to us when we get to heaven.

The challenge we have with such questions is summed up by Paul in 1 Corinthians 13:12. We are not able to see as God sees.

If we could, many of our questions would melt away.

We can be absolutely certain that whatever happens to pets, spouses, children, friends, and family members, God has it all worked out.

It is a very human tendency to consider the deep questions about our world and matters of eternity through a lens that is clouded by our human limitations. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8, 9).

While people form strong attachments to family members and pets, it is perfectly reasonable to assume that God is more than able to ease the pain we might expect to feel should we be without the pets or people we have learned to love on earth. The very best thing about eternity will not be the mansions in which the redeemed dwell or streets made of gold or the fruit that grows on the tree of life.

The best thing will be that God’s saved children will dwell in His presence forever and ever. Jesus will be our Friend into the unending future.

Eternity will be more wonderful than we can imagine.

We can be absolutely certain that heaven will be better than we can imagine, and nothing there will cause us to feel any sense of loss or dissatisfaction.
