Gifted!

Adults · From the book The Hope Of Glory

Verse:

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them. —Romans 12:6

It often appears that the spiritual gifts that get people most excited are the more demonstrative gifts such as healing, miracles, or tongues. But every gift given by the Holy Spirit is as important as another.

Romans 12:6–8 says, “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.” Among the spiritual gifts mentioned by Paul is prophecy. John, the author of the book of Revelation, had the gift of prophecy, as did Noah and Elijah. Teaching is an important spiritual gift. The apostle Paul —who also had the gift of prophecy— certainly had the gift of teaching, as did Priscilla and Aquila.

When Paul wrote to the Romans about spiritual gifts, he mentioned the gift of exhortation. Exhortation is “encouragement.” Someone who thought they might simply have had a sunny personality may well be missing the point that they have been specially gifted by God. Some people have that special way about them.

After speaking with them, you’re ready to climb a mountain, or you feel as though you have faith like Abraham. If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and been baptized, God has endowed you with spiritual gifts.

The Holy Spirit has come into your life, bringing not only the personal presence of Jesus but also heaven-given abilities that enable you to represent Him and share His love and light with others. It isn’t humility that says, “I don’t have any spiritual gifts.” It’s a serious misunderstanding of the Bible. Use your talents and your God-given gifts for the Lord. He has equipped you to make a difference for His glory.

Spiritual gifts are given by God for the upbuilding of the church and for effectively representing Jesus to the world.

You have been privileged by God to be used of heaven to draw people to Him.
