Verse:For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. —Romans 8:18
When evangelist Jason Morgan was conducting meetings in the southwestern United States, a well-to-do man began attending the nightly series.
Don was highly educated and had a very demanding role with a major multinational company. But his success did not prepare him for the challenge he was now facing. Don had been diagnosed with colon cancer and had begun to look for real meaning in his life. As the meetings progressed, Don found assurance in the Bible, and he found meaning through faith in Jesus. Don was anointed during the meetings, and when the series concluded, he gave his heart fully to Jesus and was baptized. Not long after his baptism, Don received word from his physicians.
To their surprise, Don was cancer-free.
No trace of the disease could be found in his body.
Don had not only received a new lease on his physical life but also received the gift of everlasting life. Regardless of what happened with Don’s health, he had the assurance that he was going to live forever.
Major changes in a person’s life often lead them to reconsider their life’s direction and to reorder their priorities.
A friend told me that during the last days of his brother’s life, his brother found great comfort in reading the Bible, even though he had kept God at arm’s length for much of his life. Illness, loss, financial pressures, and a whole host of challenges we would rather not be confronted with can bring us to the place where we allow God into our lives. No one wishes for hardship, but hardship will draw us to Jesus if we seek God in life’s challenging times. Paul said that our present suffering isn’t even worthy of being compared with the glory that will be revealed in us. In eternity, no one will find fault with God for what afflicted us while on earth. If we look for God in life’s trying times, we will find He is near and willing to uphold and bless us.
