Verse:When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. —Colossians 3:4
I was raised in a churchgoing family, but we didn’t have much of anything to do with the Bible. We were undoubtedly committed to our church and to our faith. But if we were committed to Jesus, it didn’t really show.
When one of my brothers accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, what bothered us most was that he took it all so seriously.
He went to church for much of an entire day.
He wouldn’t do anything on Friday night or Saturday that didn’t relate to his religion and certainly wouldn’t do anything secular.
His diet changed. He stopped using drugs and alcohol and even changed the way he used his spare time. His faith impacted his entire life.
For many people, faith in God is only a part of their life.
Christianity is simply a thing to do, much like joining a service organization or a club. But faith in God was never designed to be an appendage attached to the life —an option, like leather seats or a sunroof for a new car buyer.
The apostle Paul was clear that Jesus is life.
Jesus is Creator and Redeemer. He is our High Priest in heaven, giving aid to all who come to Him by faith. He described our connection with Him as being like a branch joined to a vine and urged us to “abide” in Him.
Only Jesus living His life in a believer can bring spiritual growth and victory; as He said, “Without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
Attending church is to be the icing on the cake for disciples of Jesus.
Those who follow Him every day follow Him to church on the Sabbath to join in corporate worship. Faith in Jesus impacts every facet of life because Christianity is a surrender to the will of God for the entire life.
Faith is not a philosophy or an extracurricular activity.
The Spirit of God is striving to bring us to the place where Christ “is our life.”
