A Step of Faith

Adults · From the book The Hope Of Glory

Verse:

“If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight, … Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD.” —Isaiah 58:13, 14

They had emigrated from Switzerland.

Selling everything they had, they chose to relocate to the United States. After studying potential locations, the husband and wife chose to move to Oregon, where they established a successful tourism venture.

Intrigued by a brochure that they received in the mail, they decided to attend a Bible seminar focusing on the prophecies of the Bible.

They were eager to learn.

They were Christians but would readily admit they had never really taken their faith seriously. They felt this might be a good opportunity to learn more about the Bible. They loved what they learned and opened up their hearts to receive Jesus as they had never done before. They would practice their faith and allow the Bible to be their guide. However, there was one challenge.

The seventh-day Sabbath was very clearly the will of God for their lives, but what would they do about their business? Saturdays were by far their most profitable day. There was just no way they could operate their business successfully if they were not open on Saturdays. Or was there? They wondered what would happen if they simply chose to trust God and allow Him to work it out one way or another.

They prayed and decided that God was able to bless their business, even if it was closed on the busiest day of the week. And if He chose not to, they would take that as a sign that He had better plans for them. Late one Friday afternoon, they closed their business, planning to reopen early Sunday morning.

When Sunday came, they couldn’t believe what happened. They experienced their busiest day since opening their venture.

And with each passing week, they found that they were now doing more business in six days than they had previously done in seven.

God asks followers of Jesus to “turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My holy day” (Isaiah 58:13).

A lack of faith may see challenges and obstacles. Faith knows that God is able and claims and experiences the blessing of heaven.
