Verse:I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. —Psalm 32:8
Emma was desperate. The poison ivy was driving her mad, and now that it was on her face, it was affecting the way she looked.
She wanted to get rid of it quickly. A woman she met had a suggestion. Find a certain root, boil it, and apply the brew to the poison ivy.
She assured Emma she had done this over many years, and it was a remedy used with great success back in her home country in Europe.
Emma figured she had nothing to lose.
She found the root growing in her backyard, dug it up, and placed it in boiling water. After a few minutes, she had a saucepan full of bubbling brown liquid, just as the woman said. When it cooled, she applied it to her face.
It smelled awful, but she was prepared to do it if it meant relief from the poison ivy plaguing her. In spite of the odor, she splashed it on her face several times, as directed by the kind woman. But before long, Emma realized the woman’s potion was useless. She felt embarrassed for having listened to a stranger and for following her questionable advice. When you face challenging situations, whose instructions do you follow? There is no shortage of advice available today.
Social media, the internet as a whole, television, friends, family, and colleagues are all ready to offer their opinions.
But the counsel you most need is that which God offers, the guidance of Scripture and the leading of the Holy Spirit. God says He will instruct us, teach us, and guide us. The Bible is far more than a rule book filled with dos and don’ts.
The Bible is God seeking to lead and bless your life.
He is a loving God looking to prepare His children for eternity. God provides guidance for relationships, health, finances, and so much more.
A Bible that isn’t read is a Bible that can’t affect your life.
Advice comes in many forms, but only God’s guidance is failsafe.
