Where Is Your Faith?

Adults · From the book The Hope Of Glory

Verse:

Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. —Luke 8:22

Bruce found himself stranded on the side of a busy highway in a major city. A truck driver, Bruce needed to be towed to where his truck could be repaired. He prayed and asked God for help. Then he got out of his truck, hooked a chain to the front of his rig, and stretched it out as if a vehicle were already there to tow him.

Minutes later, a vehicle pulled up, connected the chain, and provided Bruce with the help he desperately needed.

The perfect vehicle, with the right driver, in the right place, at precisely the right time. Bruce demonstrated real faith, believing not only that God could answer his prayer but also that God would answer his prayer.

Faith believes that God is able to do what God says He can do, simply because God said that it is so. On one occasion, Jesus got into a boat with His disciples and said, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” However, bad weather developed as they sailed. The Bible says, “They were filling with water, and were in jeopardy.” In a panic, they woke Jesus, who calmed the stormy seas before inquiring, “Where is your faith?” (Luke 8:22–25). Moments away from losing their lives, they turned to their Lord for help, and He rebuked them for their lack of faith! But Jesus had given them every assurance that they would not lose their lives. He had said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake,” which meant that irrespective of what occurred, they were, in fact, going to the other side of the lake. When Jesus said, “Let us go to the other side of the lake,” the disciples simply needed to believe they were going to the other side of the lake, and it would be so. Relying on the Word of God to do what it says it will do is faith in action. In their moment of crisis, the disciples had forgotten Jesus’ promise.

They were going to the other side of the lake.

Faith believes God will do what He says He will do.
