Verse:Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing. —Isaiah 40:26
After a long building and testing process, on April 24, 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope was launched into low-earth orbit as a joint project of NASA and the European Space Agency. Gravitating outside the earth’s atmosphere, this space-based observatory has provided amazing images of the deeper universe.
Some pictures are from galaxies 13.2 billion light-years away.
The scientific study of outer space (astronomy) has been enhanced by the development of the telescope and by the discovery of the physical laws that control the celestial bodies in their respective orbits. These ongoing achievements allow us to see today what no other generation before has seen. While time lasts, space science will continue to provide ever-clearer images of the universe.
But throughout eternity, God’s redeemed children will explore the universe by themselves, without any need for a telescope.
All the treasures of the universe will be open to the study of God’s redeemed. Unfettered by mortality, they wing their tireless flight to worlds afar —worlds that thrilled with sorrow at the spectacle of human woe and rang with songs of gladness at the tidings of a ransomed soul. With unutterable delight the children of earth enter into the joy and the wisdom of unfallen beings. They share the treasures of knowledge and understanding gained through ages upon ages in contemplation of God’s handiwork.
With undimmed vision they gaze upon the glory of creation —suns and stars and systems, all in their appointed order circling the throne of Deity.
Upon all things, from the least to the greatest, the Creator’s name is written, and in all are the riches of His power displayed.
Our limited brains cannot fully grasp the meaning of the two words universe and eternity. How amazing it is that God Himself came to this sinful planet to save you and me by His grace and has given us all eternity to explore His celestial handiwork! Is it not amazing?
