New Ancestors?

Adults · From the book Every Day a New Beginning

Verse:

Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. —Genesis 1:24

Charles Darwin (1809–1882) was studying at Cambridge to become an Anglican priest. But he was increasingly fascinated with natural theology and natural philosophy, which explain the laws of nature exclusively through observation.

In 1831, he joined a worldwide exploratory voyage on the HMS Beagle.

The adventure was supposed to last two years but ended up lasting almost five. As a naturalist, Darwin was much impressed with the different species he found in South America, especially the exotic ones in the Galapagos archipelago. During the voyage, Darwin collected 1,529 specimens preserved in alcohol and 3,907 dried specimens.

On November 24, 1859, the renowned publisher John Murray released Darwin’s famous book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life (usually known simply as The Origin of Species). In Darwin’s view, the general law in “the war of nature,” leading to the advancement of all organic beings, is “multiply, vary, let the strongest live and the weakest die.” His theory of natural selection implied that a Creator could have breathed the life energy “into a few forms or into one,” but from then on, “this planet has gone cycling,” and life evolved into “endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful.” The real issue is who actually holds creative power.

According to the biblical creationist model, God is the only source and sustainer of life in all its uncountable expressions.

The Darwinian evolutionary theory empties God of His creating and sustaining power and transfers it to the creatures themselves.

Atheistic evolutionists go a step further and erase God completely from the scenario. So creation is deified, and God is made void.

Instead of having a noble ancestry that leads back to God, humanity is seen as nothing more than an evolving expression of primitive forms of animal life.

Only the Eternal God who “made the universe” (Hebrews 1:2, NIV) can explain its origin to us. To Him alone be the glory today and forever.

Amen.
