Verse:The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. —Psalm 34:7, NIV
When Sabbath ended one week, we had a baby shower for one of our church members. It was very well attended, and I helped clean up afterward. The family life leader said a closing prayer, and we all went our separate ways. I caught a bus to the main bus station and waited for another one to take home. To my surprise, I had missed the last bus! With no other options left, I decided to walk home. I had no choice in the matter, and I had a long walk ahead of me.
The first part of my trek took me down a main highway that was very busy. I decided to get off this busy highway and walk through the neighborhood instead. So I redirected my route from the highway and down a road that would take me to the neighborhood road.
That’s when I first noticed a long driveway to my right. It wasn’t just the driveway that attracted my attention; I also saw three large dogs walking down that driveway toward me. I just glanced at them and kept walking. I wonder where they are going went through my mind as I glanced back. They were right behind me!
Arriving at the main street of the neighborhood, I turned left. To my surprise, I encountered more big dogs there too. In fact, so many dogs that I started to panic. “They will not harm you,” I heard a voice say.
That voice comforted me. I began noticing something different about this “pack” of dogs. They were not barking or growling. It was as if they all knew one another. They surrounded me as I continued walking down the street. When I had walked for about thirty minutes and gotten close to a hospital, I knew I was only ten minutes from my home. When I arrived at the hospital, I looked around and behind me. All the dogs were gone! Soon after, I arrived safely at home.
Tears still come to my eyes every time I recall this experience. The Lord showed me on that dark night when I missed the last city bus that He keeps track of His children and provides protection—perhaps even sending angels in the form of dogs.
