Verse:Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me? —Jeremiah 32:27, NKJV
Nothing is too hard for God, and God is ready to help us in our weakest moments.
One Friday evening, I started having excruciating pain in my wrist. I knew that it was my rheumatoid arthritis acting up again, so I went to bed.
Sabbath morning, I woke up with my wrist swollen and very painful. My fingers were also very stiff, and I wondered if I would be able to go to church. My husband, who is a pastor, was going to preach at another pastor’s church, and I wanted to go. I prayed and asked God to give me some relief. Although I was hurting, I got dressed.
The trip took more than an hour. When we arrived at the church, my wrist was still swollen and painful and needed some medical attention. However, I insisted that I was going to attend church no matter what the situation. Shortly after we entered the sanctuary, the Sabbath School song leader invited me to play the piano for the Sabbath School service. I turned and looked at my husband, for there was no way I would be able to play the piano.
Nevertheless, I walked up to the piano and sat down. “Our first song this morning will be ‘Great Is Thy Faithfulness,’ ” announced the song leader, giving the page number of the hymn.
Lord, I am asking You to take over, I prayed silently. I started playing the piano and was able to play three more songs. Then I played for the divine service. At the end of the service, people thanked me for playing that day as their regular musician was absent.
I was still in shock that I had been able to play the piano despite the pain in my fingers. In the fellowship hall, a church elder noticed my fingers and my wrist and commented that he never heard the piano being played so well. I told him I was just a vessel used by God, and that I was not the one who had played. He called some of the other members to look at my hand. They were surprised at what they saw and wondered how I had been able to play so well.
This experience taught me that even though we might feel helpless and suffer from severe pain, attempting to do something for God can be rewarding, for God can enable us to do the task undertaken.
