Verse:Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. —Psalm 37:4, NKJV
Moving from one place to another is very demanding for us homemakers. This was the eleventh time we had moved, the last four times being overseas. We had just arrived at our new mission field, Paraguay, in South America, straight from Nepal on the other side of the planet. House hunting was difficult; the new culture, challenging; and the city’s scenery boring.
We landed in Asunción; the container of our belongings arrived from Calcutta, India; and we finally rented a beautiful house. However, I was not happy. My heart was heavy. I wanted to return to my beloved Himalayan peaks and walk again through those precious rice and wheat terraces. I needed a job desperately—something to keep me occupied.
“Lord, why did You bring me here? I hate it . . . I need a job. . . . Please, heavenly Father!” I prayed, kneeling beside my bed, in an otherwise empty house. I cried and claimed God’s promises.
That was when the owner of a bilingual school called me for a job interview. “I have no positions for a music teacher,” she told me. I waited, patiently wait, on the Lord while claiming His promises and furnishing our home.
Just as I had finished, the school owner who had interviewed me two years earlier called again. God is so good! The offer was far above my wildest expectations. I would teach physics in English and would receive a high salary. God had me wait for two years so that I could adjust to a new culture, turn the house into a home, and learn to trust Him more. I loved my job and my students. I testified to them of God the Creator—the God of all the laws of physics and the Creator of colors and beauty. I added Bible verses to every topic we dealt with in class. This made an impact on my students’ bright young minds.
My God, who has my name written in the palm of His hands and knows all my needs and my heart’s desires, had given me far more than I could ever ask for or even imagine. This job gave me the peace of mind and acceptance I needed so much.
Put Him to the test and wait on Him always. He will do the same for you.
