Verse:And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. —Philippians 1:6, NLT
My hair needed some attention. Since my granddaughter is a beautician, I went to the shop where she works so she could provide the necessary services. Looking around, I quickly spotted a beautician engaged in the challenging job of untangling and cutting a thick head of hair that looked as if it had been neglected for weeks. Sometimes two beauticians had to work at it. They had started the process before I arrived and had not yet completed the task when I left. It was hard for me to believe that anyone would ignore her hair for that long. How could the individual stand her appearance, let alone the itching discomfort this neglect must cause?
This incident in the beauty shop reminded me of times when my life has been a mess, caused by my neglecting very important aspects of it, day after day. For our walk with Christ to progress, necessary steps must be taken. First and foremost, beginning the day with Him is important. He is eager for us to talk to Him, and prayer enables us to do so. His ear is always open to anything we want to talk about: our joys, our sorrows, our concerns, and our need for guidance in making good choices. Whatever concerns us concerns Him.
The study of His Word is also imperative. Sometimes we don’t know how to pray or what to pray for. Reading His Word and letting it speak to us brings our condition and situation into focus. Reflection during our time with God also allows Him to speak to us through impressions brought to our minds. When we spend this daily time with our Savior, He untangles our lives by empowering us to have the courage to carry out our convictions and the strength to overcome those out-of-control aspects. His scissors, the Holy Spirit, cut away that which is sinful and offensive.
How I wish I could have seen that young lady when her hair transformation was complete. What a testimony it must have been to the work of her beautician. What a difference her cared-for hair must have made in her appearance. When we walk with Jesus and the Holy Spirit is living in us, it will show. There will be smiles on our faces and joy in our hearts. Our words and our works will speak volumes for Him!
