Verse:God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him. —Hebrews 6:10, NIV
My husband and I had booked a trip to the Dominican Republic to celebrate our twenty-second anniversary. Then, about a month before our dream celebration, my husband made an ill-advised decision and was taken to court to face a lawsuit. Our world started to fall apart. Everything that we cherished was taken from us. We had to hire a lawyer, who requested $12,500 just to begin the case. I cried, asking, “Where are You, God? I’m a woman of God. My husband and I are leaders in the church and have dedicated our lives to Your service. Why have You forgotten us?” We went on our anniversary trip since everything was paid for, but our hearts were filled with sadness and disappointment. We didn’t enjoy the trip the way we’d planned.
The year before this unexpected lawsuit, my husband had been diagnosed with cancer. During this very difficult year, he had undergone surgery. Since my health insurance covered everything, I hadn’t used my supplemental cancer insurance. Now, a year later, we decided to cancel the cancer insurance since we needed every possible dollar to help pay the lawyer’s fees. I called the insurance company and asked for a cancellation. “Why?” asked the representative. I explained our situation. “I can’t believe that you didn’t file a report about your husband’s cancer,” she said. “Let me assure you that he can still be compensated for all the stress he went through during the discovery and treatment of his cancer.”
I sent her the requested documents and waited to see how much the compensation would be. Three days later, I awoke, troubled and depressed. Why has God forgotten my family? After work that day, I stopped by the mailbox. In it was a check from the insurance company—for the amount of $12,500! I phoned my husband. Crying, I said, “God has not forgotten us!” We still had to face a huge storm ahead of us, but now I was at ease, knowing God was with us.
I do not know what hardships you are facing today. Difficult situations sometimes make us wonder if God has forgotten us, but He has not! He will never leave us, forsake us, forget about us, or turn His back on us. In the moments when you feel lost and alone and abandoned by God, remember that the truth is . . . He has not forgotten you!
