Without Purse

Women · From the book Color my world with love

Verse:

Then Jesus asked them , “ When I sent you without purse , bag or sandals , did you lack anything ? ” “ Nothing , ” they answered . — Luke 22 : 35 , NIV

I love bags and purses — most of us ladies do . I love them in all colors , including red and yellow . I have crocheted and faux leather bags . I just love them ! One morning I decided that what I had on didn’t match the bag I’d been using , so I transferred its contents into the one that I now needed . I stepped out of my house . As I began walking , a car pulled alongside me . “ Would you like a ride ? ” offered a neighbor . At school that day , a colleague shared her lunch with me . Then , lo and behold , I got another ride home . These same blessings followed me the next day .

Sometime during the next day , I sat at my desk and grew hungry . I decided to purchase something to eat and rummaged through my bag for my wallet . It wasn’t there ! I frantically searched my desk drawers — still , no wallet . My handbag had been near me all morning , so I knew that my wallet had not been stolen . The only place it could be was at home , and that’s where I found it .

It dawned on me that I had taken this wallet out of my handbag during the transfer of contents from one purse to the other . For almost two days , I had not even realized that it was missing . I was amazed by how God had taken such meticulous care of me . He had covered me while I was unknowingly vulnerable . For two days , I had flown around like a sparrow , unaware of how God had been lovingly taking care of my transportation and food needs through the small , loving favors of others .

As the enormity of what could have happened enveloped me , I asked myself , What if I had taken a bus and realized that I had no money when I was about to pay ?

A still , small Voice replied , I would have taken care of that too . Trust Me .

It was true . I had been out in the world “ without purse , ” yet I had lacked nothing . If God could take such meticulous care of me , our heavenly Father can surely take care of you . Matthew 10 : 29 – 31 assures us that we are worth much more to Him than many sparrows . Today , let’s trust God for our modern - day - manna miracles and pillar - by - night provisions . He will provide day by day , moment by moment , and from one need to another .
