Verse:I will lift up my eyes to the hills — From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. — Psalm 121:1, 2, NKJV
Reading the story of Caleb reminded me of the mountains of the Maracas Valley , where I lived during my childhood . It was the most awe - inspiring experience to view their magnificent splendor each morning . It was as if I stood in the very presence of the divine Creator . The mist rising among them like torrents of smoke brought to mind the greatness , beauty , and power of God .
Perhaps eighty - five - year - old Caleb envisioned such a scene when he asked Joshua for the three - thousand - foot , giant - populated mountain of Hebron . Through faith - inspired eyes , he saw the grandeur and beauty that could evolve after the nine - to thirteen - foot tall giants were vanquished . But could the Anakim be driven out ? Caleb was not a fainthearted man ! Although his own tribe of Judah lived among the Jebusites ( which they could not drive out because of fear and unbelief ) , Caleb faced his own challenge with courage , faith , and wholehearted trust in the mighty power of the living God . Despite Caleb’s forty - year journey in the wilderness and then having to wait five more years until all tribal allotments had been assigned , Caleb remained undaunted . He would claim his inheritance . And like Jesus , the Lion of the tribe of Judah , he was determined to be victorious . Maybe Caleb intended to prove that nothing is too hard for God , that His promises and supply of strength never fail . And they didn’t . “ Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak from there : Sheshai , Ahiman , and Talmai , the children of Anak . Then he went up from there to the inhabitants of Debir ” ( Joshua 15 : 14 , 15 , NKJV ) .
It matters not how rough the terrain , there is a mountain to climb . So my question is this : Are you a Caleb , willing to undertake the challenge of conquering the giants in your life ? Not just the disturbances of daily living but also the spiritual forces of evil in “ heavenly places ” ( Ephesians 6 : 12 , NKJV ) ? Today , be a woman of faith . Ask God to give you the mountain that may so severely intimidate you . Then , like Caleb , rely on God to make you a conqueror .
