Verse:This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it . — Psalm 118:24 , NKJV [ We ] shall see His face , and His name shall be on [ our ] foreheads . — Revelation 22:4, NKJV
As I write this devotional , it is 2018 . In three years , I’ll be ninety , unless Jesus comes beforehand and time is no more . I hope that is the case . Or I may be in my grave awaiting Jesus ’ return . However , if you’re reading this as a devotional in published book form , it is 2021 .
Most of us have the good sense to prepare both an advance directive , regarding our care when our health issues seem terminal , and a will for distribution of our worldly assets with money set aside to pay for our burial or internment . But are you also leaving a legacy ? With intention , I want to leave a legacy of both inspiration and encouragement .
Earlier this year , I wrote an article that appeared in our denomination’s flagship publication . It was entitled , “ At the Corner of . . . the Voice of an Anti - Retirement Advocate . ” As a result , I received via my email address — which appeared with my information at the end of the article — letters from readers across the United States of America and even one from the mayor of Chetwynd , British Columbia . Each email mentioned that the article had inspired the reader . These letters affirmed my desire to write to inspire others , to bring praise , honor , and glory to Jesus in some way . As correspondence ensued between the readers and me , I also learned my writing had helped them feel encouraged . And guess what ? Each of them also inspired and encouraged me . They helped to send me on my way with the joy of service to my fellow wayfarers , as we travel the path to heaven together — most of whom I’ll probably never meet until the kingdom of God is our home . Readers have always done this for me as I hope that I’ve always done for you.
So , this day , I ask you to reread the two memory verses at the top of this devotional . First , rejoice in this day , and rejoice further in the thought that soon we will see our Lord Jesus Christ and His very name will be on our foreheads . ( I assume that means on the frontal lobes of our brains . ) What a glorious day that will be ! I look forward to our friendship throughout eternity.
