The Lockbox

Women · From the book Covered And Carried

Verse:

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. —Romans 8:28, NKJV

We had just purchased a new home, and I was on my way to measure the windows for drapes and curtains. My mother was with me, and I was excited to show our new home to her. When we drove into the driveway, I noticed there was a lockbox on the front door and furniture in the living room! There must be some mistake, I thought. A call was made to my real estate agent, who discovered that he had shown us a rental house that never had been for sale. In addition, he had processed the wrong paperwork. We were actually purchasing another house at a different address —one that we had never viewed! The real estate agent did everything in his power to make things right for us. He tried to show us the other house. Just by a simple glance, we knew that it was definitely not our style nor would it be our choice.

Our earnest money was forfeited.

Our previous home had been sold weeks earlier and would be occupied within eight days. Where do we go from here? The Bible tells us that “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Needless to say, we were in a panic and wondered how to proceed.

As we prayed, we were impressed to drive a few miles farther down the street to a separate subdivision.

There we saw several houses for sale. One of them caught our eye. You see, the previous home had a lovely park behind it, and so did this one! The park was right out the back door, and our kids would love to have such easy access to it. We contacted the agent selling the home and were able to purchase it.

The buyers of our previous home were willing to extend their move to accommodate our needs. We love our new home! Even though unforeseen circumstances occur in our lives, we can be assured that the Lord is right there with us.

He cares about the things that are important to us.

He will never leave us stranded (or “homeless”).
