Verse:For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. —Matthew 18:20, KJV
My prayer partner, Angella, and I were finishing a call on a Tuesday when she asked whether Dale, an old friend we’d lost touch with, still lived nearby. I replied that I didn’t know, as I had not seen her for years.
Angella commented that she and Dale were close, but they had lost touch. On Thursday, as I was leaving the gym, my daughter texted, asking me to pick up some storage baskets for her. First, I ran a few errands and found everything else I needed except for an eyebrow pencil, which was not in stock.
I decided to go to Walmart because we had gotten baskets there before. My search was successful. With baskets in hand, I headed to the cash register.
Suddenly, I recalled that I needed an eyebrow pencil, so I made a beeline to the cosmetics section. As I approached the area, I noticed a woman stooped down low, looking at something on the bottom shelf.
I said to the woman, “It looks like you could use a hand getting up.” At that moment, she stood up and gave me a big grin and a hug.
You guessed it: it was Dale. In my excitement, I shared the conversation I’d had with Angella two days prior. I immediately retrieved my cell phone from my purse and called Angella. When she answered, I handed the phone to Dale. I could hear Angella screaming with excitement over the phone.
They talked for a few minutes and exchanged phone numbers. I stood in awe of God. It occurred to me that we had not prayed for Angella to find Dale.
It was merely a comment in passing, or so I thought. The Bible tells us that God does not sleep nor slumber and that He is ever present, willing to grant us the desires of our hearts (Psalms 141:4; 46:1; 37:4). At the end of our daily prayer session, we usually ask God to “help us be a blessing to someone today,” and we go through the day not knowing who, what, when, or how He will answer.
That day Angella was blessed to be reunited with Dale, and I was overjoyed that God used me to make it happen. Had I gone straight to the cash register, I would not have encountered Dale. I was reminded again that when we are impressed by the Holy Spirit to do something, we must follow through.
God is waiting to bless us.
