Verse:I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. —Psalm 121:1, 2, KJV
During a recent routine morning exercise on my back porch, I had an uplifting object lesson from nature. The time had just changed to daylight saving time, so it was more than half an hour before sunrise but still dark.
For the three previous mornings, I had been enjoying the company of Venus, the bright morning star. That morning it seemed to shine brighter than ever. I lifted my hands high as I reached toward the bright morning star.
Then, suddenly, the “star” disappeared from sight.
Dark clouds moved across the predawn sky and temporarily hid the bright star. I kept moving, but it was not the same.
Then I thought, how similar this is to our life’s journeys! We are enjoying life’s daily, taken-for-granted gifts when suddenly things change.
An unexpected dark cloud —a cancer diagnosis, maiming accident, sudden loss of a loved one, unexpected unemployment, or divorce announcement— hides the stars or even the sun. The light in our life seems to be hidden by those dark clouds, so we temporarily lose sight of the light. It is in times like these that we must lift our eyes and look beyond the dark clouds —from whence our help comes.
We must still rise. We must look to the Bright and Morning Star— the Son of Righteousness. Only then can we get the strength to resume the journey. Even if the dark clouds turn the day cloudy, the sun will rise again! The Son will arise with healing and give us the strength to carry on. God’s Son will raise you up and renew your strength. He will even carry you when you can’t carry on. It is in times like these that He upholds and sustains you. You can lean on every uplifting promise.
Today, look beyond the dark clouds to the Bright and Morning Star —the Son of Righteousness. He will help you to mount up as an eagle, and He will renew your strength (see Isaiah 40:31). The sun will still rise!
