Verse:For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. —Psalm 91:11, NKJV
Many years ago we lived out in the country on our hundred-acre ranch. Only about a dozen families lived in our area, so there was not much traffic on the narrow, winding road. This road took us into the river canyon, across a one-lane bridge, and up the other side on the half-hour drive into town.
On trips into town, our five-year-old son would repeat his weekly memory verse to amuse himself. At that time, our old car didn’t have any seat belts to use when he and his two-year-old sister sat in the back seat.
One week, as our son was musing on his memory verse in Psalm 91 (today’s theme text), he said, “I’m going to pretend I’m my sister’s guardian angel!” We were thankful that he had such precious thoughts on the long ride.
As the years passed and we lived in many places, later joined by another daughter, we were often aware of our guardian angels’ presence with us.
Other times, we probably weren’t.
Our travels took us throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada, so I’m sure our guardian angels worked overtime some days.
Today, our children are grown and have families of their own.
They and their children are doing their own driving.
In our senior years, we have moved back to the old ranch. Now, though, a subdivision surrounds it, and much more traffic travels on that narrow, winding road. Some of the drivers think they are driving in town and forget how to drive these rural roads. I am so thankful for seat belts and always pray for my guardian angel to go with me when I start the drive into town. I also pray for others who are driving this road with me —that they will drive carefully. It has been more than sixty years since our son first learned that memory verse in Psalm 91. Now four generations of our family have driven on this narrow mountain road. Needless to say, we have had some close calls, but God’s angels have protected us from any serious accidents or injuries.
There are so many precious promises in the Bible from which we gain encouragement. Thank You, Father, for standing behind Your wonderful promises of protection.
