Verse:“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’” —Matthew 25:40, NLT
For years, my husband and I have been involved in ministry in the Philippines. I started in ministry upon my arrival in Germany while I was still single.
God put a burden and love in my heart for this ministry.
We help by sending money for the support of laypeople and radio and jail ministry, feeding homeless street people, and providing a home for the aged.
The Lord has richly rewarded our efforts.
The jail ministry alone has resulted in the decisions of more than five hundred inmates to give their hearts to Christ and be baptized.
That happened in one year’s time, during 2014 and 2015.
To God be the glory for that amazing outcome! My husband and I decided to involve ourselves personally by traveling to the Philippines for our vacation. We wanted to work among those we had been helping to support.
To participate in the street ministry, we had to get up at three o’clock in the morning. After rising, we participated in a devotional time with our coworkers.
Then we cooked big pots of noodle soup. With bread and blankets, we went into the streets to awaken those sleeping on the ground.
As we gently spread blankets over them, we offered a warm breakfast —a warm breakfast for this underserved part of the population who had gone to sleep the night before on empty stomachs. My heart overflowed with joy as I reached out to these suffering individuals. I especially remember one elderly woman on the street. As I covered her with a blanket and set down a container of soup beside her, I asked, “Where do you live?” She simply pointed to the tree beside us where I had just served her and gave us a beautiful smile of gratitude. I was deeply touched. Returning her smile, I said, “God loves you so much.” In tears, she responded, “Really? Thank you for coming here!” I handed her a small amount of cash, which brought another smile of surprise to her face. Suddenly, I understood the words of Jesus, who said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35, KJV). Today I challenge you, woman of God, to be involved in some kind of ministry. God will lead you, and your life will never be the same. Let the personal motto of each of us be, “I am a woman God can use.”
