Verse:

“I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. … “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”—Joshua 1:5, 9, NIV

When you hear God calling, it’s nearly impossible to ignore it.

During my junior year of high school, I felt God calling me to a summer evangelistic job that required preaching sermons. Public speaking is something I have always been afraid of, and I have never felt that I am good at it.

I was confused when I felt the urge to apply for a job that revolved around public speaking, but I decided to do it anyway. I trusted that God would help me with my fear so that I could preach His Word. I ended up getting the job, which confirmed for me that God was calling me to work for Him. I began preparing my sermons and, most of all, praying that God would help me when the time came to speak.

The big day finally arrived. This would be my first time preaching, and I began to doubt whether God could use me when I was so fearful of speaking in public. Anxiety weighed on my chest, and all I felt I could do was pray constantly. Yet I chose to go forward and at least attempt what I had committed to do.

God helped me complete the sermon.

After I finished preaching, I felt a peace come over me.

I knew God’s message had touched the hearts of many present. Feeling good after preaching my first sermon, I felt confident that God would help me to deliver His message for the rest of the summer. That experience taught me that we can actually let fear motivate us as we wait to see God at work in our lives.

Trusting that He will take care of our fear is the only way we can truly get rid of it. By trusting God and letting Him use me, despite my fear, I was able to preach His Word and reach many people. I thought I was a terrible public speaker, but He proved me wrong and showed me that amazing things will happen as long as I trust Him. God tells us in His Word that He is with us wherever we go.

We don’t need to be afraid of what we feel incapable of doing. If God is calling you, choose to trust and let go of your doubts and worries.

Let Him free you from what holds you back from spreading the good news.
