Verse:For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. —Isaiah 41:13, KJV
It has happened before. With an address plugged into our map app on a smartphone, we begin driving to our destination, only to discover somewhere along the way that there is an accident or road construction that will not allow us to take the normal route. The map’s program signals that it is recalculating to show us the best alternative route. We are not always happy to learn of the change —and sometimes the delay— but we really have no other option, so we adjust our plans and journey on.
So it has been as the COVID-19 pandemic struck our world, our nation, then our state, and finally even our communities! For our safety, we have had to readjust our thinking and change our normal activities, even our long-range plans, in light of the pandemic. We are inconvenienced by the closing of schools, businesses, and churches and disappointed that special events have been canceled and just about any gathering of more than ten people. But since these are uncertain times, we adjust in order to comply and move forward as suggested. “Sheltering in place” and “social distancing” are new concepts we need to practice because the safety of our families and every citizen of our country is the most important thing to consider. Some wonder, what is happening to our world? Is this pandemic something we might expect near the end of time? Without question, people are fearful. Of what, they aren’t quite sure, but their actions confirm it as they stand in line to stock up on food, water, and other necessities.
We who believe God is in control sometimes have moments of fear too. If it isn’t fear of COVID-19, it is likely fear of something else.
Let us arm ourselves with the comforting promises of scripture: “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee” (Psalm 55:22, KJV).
“I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4, KJV). And finally, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6, 7, NIV).
Thank You, Jesus.
