Verse:For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. —Ephesians 2:10, NIV
Recently, I have been knitting fingerless gloves, which I call texting gloves. I made my own pattern a year or two ago and decided to plan ahead for winter and make a few pairs because our hands get so cold during the winter months. With my kind of gloves, one size fits all. As I was sitting in my chair knitting, I thought about God’s hands. There is absolutely no problem that is too big to fit into God’s hands. He doesn’t do sizes either; we all fit into His hands just fine. From the tiny baby to the big, strapping man, we all fit perfectly. How comforting! Nearly everyone sends text messages these days, and I am trying to fit into this technological era.
It is often the most convenient thing to do, but there is much one can miss when communicating only through text messages: the warmth of the human voice, the vocal inflections, and the personal touch.
There is so much you can communicate to another through your voice. But guess what? God uses His voice to communicate with us if we can be still enough to hear it. One of the ways He does this is through His Word.
Our world is a busy place, and our lives reflect the stress of hurriedness. Yet it is comforting to know that God is right there in the thick and thin of our everyday lives. He is not texting (as we do); He is whispering.
How sad that we are often so busy that we miss His quiet presence! We need to develop a focused, childlike faith —a faith that takes time to insert itself into every area of our lives. We need to tell God exactly what is on our minds, as children do. Just the other day, I read about a little boy who was asked how to make his mother happy. He replied, “Tell her she is beautiful even if she looks like a dump truck.” Through Paul, God reminds us that “we are God’s handiwork” (Ephesians 2:10, NIV).
Genesis 1:27 assures us that “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (KJV).
Even when someone else might think we look like a dump truck, God reminds us how He views us —as beautiful, one-of-a-kind masterpieces.
So, as I sit here knitting gloves that will help people communicate with one another during the winter, my Creator communicates to me that I am unique, special, and beautiful —as are you!
