Verse:“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” —Matthew 7:7, 8, ESV
“Hang on, guys. Something’s wrong with my computer mouse. I have to figure it out,” Mr. Mosher said at the beginning of geometry class. Five minutes passed, and he hadn’t found a solution.
Ten minutes, and Mr. Mosher still couldn’t find the cause of the problem. We all expected him to ask for help, but he kept searching for the answer on his own. Fifteen minutes had passed when he finally picked up his mouse and looked underneath it. He began to laugh. He had found my prank. You see, Mr. Mosher and I had a bit of a prank war that went on throughout my high school years.
This was my prank on him: I had taped a sticky note to the sensor of his computer mouse that read, “Your move! LS :-).” At the time, I had thought he would figure out what I had done in a couple of minutes. Instead, he had spent a full fifteen minutes trying to solve the simple problem. Often in our walk of faith, we act like Mr. Mosher. We know there’s a problem in our relationship with God, and we do everything we can to figure out what’s wrong on our own. We search for the source of the problem and inevitably come up empty. We get discouraged and think about giving up on God altogether. That’s when we realize what the problem is: something’s blocking our connection to God. Whether it is an addiction, social media, or the difficulties of life in general, we constantly find that our connection with God is being tampered with, just as the sticky note was blocking the mouse from working. When we realize there’s a block between ourselves and God, the solution becomes clear: Pray to Him.
Talk to Him about what’s blocking our path to Him.
All He ever needs from us is an invitation, and He will swoop in and save the day in one way or another. All we ever have to do is ask Him.
With His help, we can find and remove any sticky note that perplexes us.
