God Is Relevant

Women · From the book Covered And Carried

Verse:

The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. —Psalm 18:2, NKJV

Have you ever asked yourself, Is God still relevant to my life today? Sometimes people say the Bible is for another time and that the stories and words are not for us today. Some call the stories in the Bible nice tales but, nonetheless, fiction.

How sad! I have been reading my Bible all my life, and each word, each phrase, and each story teaches me something relevant for my life today.

Let me share one with you. God is my Rock.

Our verse for today says that God is our Rock, Fortress, Deliverer, Strength, Shield, Salvation, and Stronghold. Wow! God is all of this and more. But let’s focus on the description that God is my Rock. The original Hebrew uses the words Jehovah Sela, which means “The Lord is my Rock.” A rock is an inanimate object, but when you look at huge rocks, such as those we see in mountain ranges or beside crashing waves, these immovable giants give me a wonderful image of the God I serve. God is immovable, stable, and dependable. This is the God we serve, and I praise and thank Him for being my “Rock.” Throughout my life, I have often run to my immovable, faithful, unchanging Rock, Christ Jesus. I know that some of my sisters have called on God in times of trial and have not felt His presence or received an obvious answer from Him. I’ve had those times also. But I remember the story in Mark 4:35–41 when Jesus was asleep in the boat during the storm while His disciples were struggling to save themselves. The lesson I learned from that story is that God’s silence does not mean He is absent. Once I invite God into my life each day, He travels with me through all the ups and downs of that day. When I call on Him, I do so because I know He’s there.

God has promised never to leave us (Hebrews 13:5).

So I affirm my faith in the knowledge that God is present, even if He has chosen to be silent. Why is God silent? I can only surmise that it is for my good, for He always works for my good. Don’t be discouraged, my sisters.

God is real. God is your Rock. God is relevant.

Invite Him into your life each day and believe His Word.
