Verse:Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. —1 John 4:4, KJV
The COVID-19 virus came and changed the way we view and operate in this world. As we all know, it was a pandemic that affected people around the globe physically, emotionally, financially, and socially. How could this be? Our new normal was to stay at home indefinitely. This pandemic caused us to use our homes as our offices, schools, and shopping centers. We celebrated birthdays and had family reunions virtually. Outside contact was prohibited, except for getting groceries or medical necessities. Many wondered when this devastation would end.
I was really concerned about the course of our lives.
I had just started a new job. With any new job, you try to shield your misgivings and insecurities while, with guidance, you learn the lay of the land.
For me, learning the lay of the land was grabbing my computer and propping myself on the bed to do the best I could do with the work I was given.
I knew I had made the right decision to start a new normal, but I was doubting my expertise.
My husband gave me the encouragement I needed for each day. But the next morning I would get up feeling anxious about my workday.
I prayed that God would be my inspiration, but I still felt defeated. I was also frustrated with myself as the news described the desperation of communities losing loved ones and their jobs. One morning, as I lay in bed battling my discouragement, my heavenly Father, through a calming breeze, reminded me that I was not alone in this unexpected adventure. He was and would be with me all along the way.
I lay in bed a little longer, reciting Psalm 121.
Later that evening, my husband and I were reminiscing about the last few weeks at home.
We had gotten to enjoy the company of our children. Instead of rushing past one another, we now had the opportunity to share a meal, tell stories, and quietly reflect on God’s awesome mercies. Of course, we are still coping with the unexpected. Some days are better than others, but we do know that we are not alone.
God is faithful and merciful. He is right by our side as we tackle this new, unforeseen normal. As you attempt to cope with your challenges, may you find comfort in today’s verse, knowing that the One within us is greater “than he that is in the world.”
