God’s Crazy Idea of Love

Women · From the book Covered And Carried

Verse:

“I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” —Job 42:2, NIV

It was Thanksgiving, and I was not doing well emotionally.

I was depressed, and my relationship with God was severed.

My bad decisions and inconsistent emotions were to blame.

I had lost all hope that I could be loved or be in love.

But on that Sabbath, I forced myself to get ready and go to church. I arrived in time for the sermon, but I don’t remember the sermon; I was just dreading going back to my miserable life. As I was leaving, someone invited me to stay for lunch. I was relieved because I didn’t have anything to eat at home. I was planning to fast.

While eating, I was introduced to a jovial middle-aged pastor.

We had a candid conversation, and he asked me to sing for him at his next speaking engagement. I was thrilled because I knew who he was.

I had seen him on various media outlets and at other big events.

I thought I had made it to the big leagues! I called my mother and told her about this great news. We thanked God for this blessing in disguise.

After singing at several of his events, I noticed that the pastor seemed interested in me beyond just having a casual acquaintance. How could this be possible? I was in my thirties, and he was in his fifties. He soon made his intentions known. I’ve learned how to listen to God’s voice even when He and I aren’t seeing eye to eye. So I asked God about the pastor’s request to further our relationship.

When God seemed to be making Himself clear, I fought Him for several months, wondering if that was truly His plan for me. I kept thinking, Marry an old guy? Is that what I deserve? The Lord responded to my doubts with a question: “Do you trust Me?” I did. After a beautiful courtship, the pastor and I wed.

Those years married to him were the best twelve years of my life. Unfortunately, my husband passed away on March 31, 2020, but I’m forever grateful to God for the wonderful plan He had for me. You see, God is a Master of love, and He has creative ways of revealing it to us. Don’t be afraid of His ideas.

Just sit still and let Him bring you His blessings.

He can do things that might seem impossible, even creating love where there is none. Are you ready to let God lead you?
