I’ll See You Tomorrow!

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. —1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17, KJV

My heart was heavy. A young woman whom I loved was dying of breast cancer. She had been my foster daughter many years ago.

I was flooded with memories of conversations we’d shared and the fun things we had done together. I remembered hugging her close and kissing the top of her curly blonde head. But now, she was many miles away.

As I drove home from work, I remembered that my husband had an appointment that evening. I would be home alone.

He had encouraged me to buy supper somewhere so that I wouldn’t have to cook for just myself. I remembered seeing a Facebook ad for a new place that advertised wholesome, homemade, takeout food. They had both vegetable and mushroom pot pies on their menu, so I stopped to try one. When I entered, a man ahead of me was telling the woman waiting on him that he always eats out in that area of town, and if the food was good, he would be back. Without missing a beat, she replied, “Well then, I’ll see you tomorrow!” I chuckled to myself. I liked that she had such faith in her product.

Faith! This brief exchange prompted me to consider my faith in Jesus. I know that His Word is sure, and that gives me faith that there is indeed a better “tomorrow” coming. The loved ones to whom we have said goodbye will be reunited with us.

There will be no more tears. No more goodbyes.

No more cancer. I will one day see this much-loved daughter again. I am confident that Jesus is Lord, and He is faithful.

So I can find comfort and even joy by saying, “I’ll see you tomorrow!”
