Verse:Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. —Jeremiah 33:3, KJV
As I lay on my bed, I felt lonely —again.
Even though I have felt lonely many other times before, this time, it was heart-wrenching. The Easter holidays were hard.
School was out, and my son was spending time with his grandparents. I felt alone. The longing desire to be with someone led me to contemplate my situation. I was thirty-two, single, with no boyfriend that I could call my own.
I was lonely. As I conversed with my small circle of single friends, Sherina, Teena, and Tiana, I told them that I wanted to start praying again for a companion. I started praying on my own and with my friends. They were definitely praying too.
I prayed specifically for a loving, God-fearing companion, someone who would love me and accept and love my nine-year-old son.
At first, I was a bit hesitant. I thought to myself, Do I have to ask God for this again? He’s been silent. I think I’ll just wait for Him to send someone.
Nevertheless, I relentlessly pursued God in my desire for Him to not just hear but to answer my prayer. One morning, I called Tiana and expressed my discouragement. She prayed for me, and I felt a bit relieved.
Afterward, I prayed and left it in God’s hands.
That was the best decision I made. God heard our prayers and answered —but not with a man. I was working from home, preparing my projections and plans for the next month’s sales. After I completed my tasks for the day, I went to take an afternoon nap. I lay down on my bed and whispered a prayer in my mind.
Truly the Lord answered me. Within that short time frame, I felt God’s presence like I never have before. I no longer felt alone or discouraged.
I knew that God was with me and loved me more than any man could. If you are searching for a man, God is waiting to be the intimate companion that you need. He knows your need and loneliness and promises, “Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4, NKJV).
