Verse:“Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.” —Isaiah 65:24, NIV
It was moving day, and I (Edith) had been helping my son’s family pack and get ready to move. I love to pack because packing always reminds me of new beginnings. My task had been to pack the kitchen, bathrooms, and children’s room.
On the morning of the moving day, I awoke energized for the move, stripped my bed, and completed packing the guest room.
We were expecting the movers at any moment.
I remember reflecting that things were going smoothly for this move. Just then, my daughter-in-law came downstairs, looking anxious and concerned.
I (Alta) woke up exhausted because the baby was up all night and worried because there was so much to do. I began to pack.
After feeding my son, Sebastian, I checked on my husband, who was breaking down the baby’s bed. When I saw him on the phone, I knew immediately something was wrong. “The movers just called to say they couldn’t come today because of a staffing shortage. They will try the next day,” he said with a forlorn expression.
Since he was so upset, I said, “Don’t worry; we are going to fix it.” I suggested we get a moving truck, move whatever we could, and put out an SOS to our friends. He did. Then, I went downstairs and told my mother-in-law.
What my daughter-in-law shared was shocking! I thought of all the work we had done and realized we had to move that day. I agreed with her suggestion for a self-move; it was the best alternative. I said, “Let’s pray.” We begin to pray audibly.
My son rushed downstairs; he had been able to secure a truck and was going to pick it up. I kept praying, asking God to intervene.
Then, I remembered something my niece had shared about hiring movers when you rent a U-Haul truck. I shared this information with my son.
He was able to hire two young men to help us move.
Within three hours, we were at the new location.
The miracle continued. When I (Alta) asked for the cost of their services, I was shocked. These young men who worked diligently charged us only one-third of the cost of the previous movers. We received three hours of moving for the price of one hour! What seemed to be a disaster, God turned into a blessing.
