No Signal

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. —2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV

Our daughter, her husband, and their son had just that day moved to another state. Two other daughters, a son-in-law, and two great-grandchildren were on vacation in another state. My husband’s brother was in hospice care and not expected to live many more days, and our niece was also in hospice.

We did not have a landline for our phone anymore, just our cell phones. Then that dreadful evening came. My husband was going to make a call when he got the message that there was no signal. I quickly looked at my phone and was able to send a text, but when I tried again to send another text, the message popped up that the text could not be sent, and I also was told there was no power.

My husband and I went into the office and rebooted everything.

We looked at our router, and there was a very weak signal for the Wi-Fi, and we realized that our router would probably need to be replaced, but it was nine-thirty at night, and the stores were all closed, so we would have to wait until morning.

I was so concerned. I worried that one of our daughters might need to call about something and would be worried that she could not get through to us, but there was nothing I could do. I felt helpless as I realized I had no power over the situation.

I remembered that God has told us not to fear and that the spirit of fear had not come from Him. Instead, He gives us a spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind. I prayed He would give me the peace I needed to leave my family concerns in His hands and that our signal would be working in the morning or that He would help me find a simple solution. He sent me His power to fall peacefully asleep.

The next morning, when I woke up, I looked over at my phone, and there was just what I needed to see —my phone had a strong signal once again.

I called my husband in the next room, and we thanked God that when we seem to have no power, God is still watching over us.

His power is ours when we feel we cannot carry on.

Let us never forget: we can trust in Him always.
