Come, Lord Jesus —Today!

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! —Revelation 22:20, NKJV

I sat on the bank of the lake where I had just completed a summer working as a ski instructor and camp counselor.

I talked to God for about thirty minutes before I needed to pack for the drive back to college in the morning to finish my final year.

The sun was sinking toward the horizon, and I sat in nature’s silence watching in wonder! I watched the beautiful artistry of God’s creation with its changing colors.

I listened to the twittering birds settling down to sleep.

Feeling a deep need for Jesus right then, I whispered, “Please, Jesus, come right now!” The feeling was so intense that tears washed down my face.

And then I felt Jesus sitting beside me. “Not yet,” He whispered back.

“You have a life ahead. You will serve me, raise a family, travel to many places, and witness in My name to many people. I have an amazing plan for your life.

I will walk with you as you move toward the time of My second coming.” Now, as I work for God in Nepal, where there is a great need for people to know Jesus, I remember that special moment at the lake talking to Him.

Every day, I still want Jesus to come, right now! But here in Nepal, I have the opportunity to shine for Him, fulfilling the plan for my life just as He explained to me long ago. God has been with me for forty years since that day beside the lake, and He still has not come back —but I believe He will. Jesus will come again! So each day, when the sun comes up, I sit and talk to my God. A song I often sing during my devotional time is “I’ll Walk with God.” I pray every day that I will serve Him faithfully wherever I go.

Dear Jesus, please come soon.

Help me share Your love with those who desperately need to know You.

May we all be waiting for Your soon return to take us to live with You in heaven. Come, Lord Jesus —today! Amen.
