The Journey

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” —Jeremiah 29:11, NIV

The idea of traveling from one place to another can be interesting, exciting, or heartbreaking. Taking a long trip long usually calls for patience, endurance, and discipline. In life’s journey, all can choose to serve God and journey with Him. Whether you are a widow, wife, single mother, motivator, encourager, or counselor, embrace the gift of life on the journey. On this journey with God, we’re promised, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9, NIV). Once God’s cleansing is asked for and received, the journey will continue with His support. The journey to heaven is vivid; nonetheless, some encounters along the way will be marked as troubles and trials.

However, understand that once God has allowed them, He will mend them. The journey is not an easy road, but nothing is too hard for God to conquer.

The Word says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:2–4, NIV). As you walk along the life’s journey, know that God is beside you. Like James, have a positive attitude toward trials.

Do not complain. Instead, take the opportunity to welcome the many trials along the way and look beyond the present experiences of discomfort.

By faith, you will see the blessings as they blaze the hallelujah horizon of praise and thanksgiving. Rest assured, “blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him” (James 1:12, NIV).

Believers, love the journey! God offers recurring strength during the journey, so become strong long-distance journey-walkers.

You will make it to the very end —“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11, NIV).

The journey leads to heaven. Stay the course!
