The Stuck Window

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. —Matthew 7:7, KJV

One day my husband discovered that the window on the driver’s side of our car would not go up. He gave it a quick knock, and surprisingly, it went up.

Three weeks went by, and it was working like a charm —until the day it was not. After a long, hot summer day of running errands, we got into the hot car and put down the windows. A cool breeze flowed through the car.

When we got home, we put up the windows.

The driver’s side window did not budge.

My husband and I took turns trying to push and pull the window button. Nothing happened. My husband gave it a little nudge as he did before, but nothing happened.

The window was stuck. For the next few days, the car’s window was down. We could not afford to get the car fixed, so what were we going to do? Afraid that the interior of the car would get wet, we decided to invent our own window.

We covered the window with plastic.

After a while, the plastic could not protect the inside of the car from the elements. I had faith that God was going to take care of our window.

My husband was worried about the safety of our car.

When he went to work, he needed to park the car in an open parking lot. He could not have the window like this. Having faith, he went out once more to the garage to see what he could do to the car. I later met him in the garage and suggested that before he did anything, we should pray. At first, it seemed a bit comical, both of us standing and praying over the window. Nevertheless, after we prayed, an idea popped into my husband’s mind. He pulled the window’s buttons apart and fiddled with the wires.

To our surprise, the window came back up as if nothing had been wrong. My husband and I turned to each other with big grins on our faces, admiring God’s power.

There is nothing impossible for God to handle.

Here we were trying to fix the window on our own; we should have called on our heavenly Father to begin with. Nothing is too hard for God.

He sees and knows all. He wants us to call on Him.

He wants us to seek Him. Today’s verse reminds us that we are not alone; we should ask, seek, and knock because our heavenly Father will answer.
