Getting Ready

Women · From the book New Every Morning

Verse:

Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. —Matthew 24:44, KJV

Christians talk about the last days and the end time and how God’s children should be ready for Jesus to come. It seemed as though we weren’t ready, the way people were stockpiling store items like toilet tissue, paper towels, food, and hand sanitizer during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jesus said we should remember the birds of the air and the lilies of the field (Matthew 6:28, 30). We forget that God is our Provider who takes care of us each day and has promised to supply all our needs.

Remember, He made us a little lower than the angels.

Have we as God’s children lost our faith in His promises? It really amazed me how neighborhoods turned into ghost towns during the height of the pandemic. Churches, businesses, and schools were closed, and we were mandated to stay home unless we were essential workers, needed treatment or medicine, or had some other necessary business. Instead of focusing on God as our Creator, using this quality time with God and each other, we kept busy complaining about trivial things.

Some church members complained because the church doors were closed (many had services online), which they felt was wrong.

They failed to realize that the church is just a building, and we the people are the church. Attendance greatly increased by having services online.

During the pandemic, a lot of our minds were focused on the news and negative things going on in the world, allowing Satan to draw our attention away from God and the Second Coming. We acted like Satan wanted us to act —being defiant, refusing to wear a mask, not social distancing, and being violent.

God’s children really lost their faith in His promises.

His Word has more than three thousand promises.

When the real time of trouble comes and the last days are upon us, it will be too late to turn to Him when Jesus is seen coming through those clouds.

He wants us to spend eternity with Him. If this were not true, He wouldn’t have continued this world after the first Adam failed.

He had the second Adam, His Son, ready to die for all humanity to give us eternal life. God’s plan is to give life and save us because of His love for us.
