Verse:“Blow the trumpets in times of gladness, too, sounding them at your annual festivals and at the beginning of each month. And blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and peace offerings. The trumpets will remind your God of his covenant with you. I am the LORD your God.” —Numbers 10:10, NLT
I was standing in a line at the hospital where I work, waiting to get my booster shot for the COVID-19 vaccine. I could hear all the chatter from other staff members who were waiting. Some were apprehensive about the side effects; others felt it would be no problem. So many different opinions as to what would happen to us.
This was the first week the second round of vaccines was being given, so as you could imagine, many were afraid or anxious.
As I stood there, I prayed for peace and protection because I was apprehensive about getting this dose. Staff members were told to take our second dose on our day off in case we experienced any side effects. I have several allergies, which was an added stressor for me. I decided to take out my phone and read a Scripture promise to calm my thoughts. I tapped on a Bible devotional app and started reading.
The thought for the day was on Numbers 10:10.
After reading the passage, I heard God’s assurance that He is near when we hear a trumpet. Soon after my reading, the chaplain from my unit passed by and said, “I got my second vaccine yesterday, and all I have is a sore arm, so don’t worry, you all will be fine.” Little did he know, his words were “the trumpet sound of the Lord” that encouraged me. Immediately, all my fears were gone. I felt at peace as I boldly approached the nurse to get my injection. It was an assurance of the Lord answering my prayer that all would be well. Remember that God is near, and we can use our voices as trumpets when we pray to call on Him. “His ears are open to their prayers” (1 Peter 3:12, NLT).
